The International Labour Organization (ILO) is launching a Green Jobs for Youth Pact at COP27, together with the UN Environment Programme and Unicef, to contribute to a just transition to a low-carbon and circular economy.
“We want to see this being labelled a COP of ambition and implementation… in a way where the labour provisions, the just transition dimensions that we have in the NDCs [national climate plans] are actually implemented,” the ILO’s head of green jobs Moustapha Kamal Gueye told Energy Monitor in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The current geopolitical situation poses a “serious” challenge to the COP, he adds, but he is encouraged by the engagement of young people.
