Unspun, Renoon partner to provide supply chain, sustainability insights

Sustainable apparel brand Unspun enters into a strategic partnership with fashion technology company Renoon to provide consumers with more information about the supply chain.

The partnership means transparency labels can be added to all the products listed on the Unspun website using Renoon’s brand impact dashboard to inform consumers about the supply chain behind each garment.

Renoon allows consumers to view brands' sustainability claims and whether or not they have been verified. Consumers can also leave reviews to share how they have experienced the brand’s sustainability.

Unspun tells Just Style the new partnership began when Unspun founder Kevin Martin met with Renoon co-founder and CEO Iris Skrami at a conference.

Amsterdam-based Renoon provides consumers with information about brands’ sustainability and the risks of buying from each company listed. The platform launched with just clothing and fashion brands, although it aims to expand beyond this, and is aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and other industry standards.

As well as giving the US-based clothing brand transparency labels, the platform will also allow Unspun to map its impact and supply chain, highlighting areas that can be improved.

Unspun brand lead Annika Visser comments: "At unspun, traceability and sustainability have always been at the forefront of our values. We’re excited to join other leaders in the sustainable fashion space and partner with Renoon to further communicate Unspun’s supply chain information and empower consumers to make eco conscious choices."

The news comes as the American Apparel and Footwear Association expressed support for California’s proposed new greenhouse gas emissions law, which would mean any corporation with more than $1bn in gross revenues operating in the US state would need to disclose their greenhouse gas emissions publicly and at least annually.

Earlier this year, Unspun secured $14m funding for sustainable 3D weaving technology. It said this would help with the implementation of its innovative 3D weaving technology, Vega, which aims to revolutionise the fashion industry's supply chain.

APAC duty-free market expected to grow fastest, fueled by rising income levels and international travelers

Per latest GlobalData estimates, the global duty-free market retailing market was valued at $49 billion in 2022, its highest level ever as it bounced back from the pandemic impact, and is expected to grow at a CAGR of more than 28% during the period 2020-2026, driven by government initiatives, rising passenger numbers, major global events (for instance global sporting tournaments) and the renewed popularity of cruise trips. Infrastructure investments will also play an important role, particularly airport expansion and space refurbishment, and investments in arrivals duty-free formats.
