Textile Exchange delays launch of traceability system

Global non-profit Textile Exchange has delayed the launch of its eTrackit traceability system following a pilot.

After initiating registration for eTransactions, as part of the eTrackit system in November 2023, Textile Exchange has delayed the system’s launch until Q3 2024.

Textile Exchange said the delay was caused by “complexities in the development and implementation” of its pilot findings.

The eTrackit system has been in development as part of Textile Exchange’s Traceability Roadmap.

The organisation said, as part of the Roadmap, it planned to connect two systems – dTrackit and eTrackit – with existing technologies.

The two systems were in parallel development with eTrackit aiming to provide “granular traceability” to raw materials certified by Textile Exchange’s standards.

The eTrackit system traces certified materials via electronic transactions, establishing accounting at the product level across the supply chain using peer-to-peer validation and third-party certification approval.

Textile Exchange says the firsts commercial eTransactions will now take place in Q3 2024. In a statement, Textile Exchange added: “Textile Exchange is working towards bringing other technology solutions into the eTrackit system, having both the requirements and assessment criteria for potential technology providers ready for Q3. At this time, Textile Exchange will work in parallel with a shortlist of technology platforms to pilot the eTrackit system.

In July, Textile Exchange introduced new forest and air pollution risk categories along with an additional material category for manmade cellulosic fibres to its Materials Impact Explorer tool.
