Teijin Cordley and WR Supply are working together to use advanced technology to transform 100% recycled paper into base paper for artificial leather release paper. This will enable the recycling of used release paper into recycled base paper and other paperboard products.
By the end of 2023, the new recycling process will start in collaboration with Rengo Co., Ltd., a company specialising in corrugated board, paperboard, and packaging.
As part of the collaboration, Teijin Cordley will retrieve used release paper from its artificial leather production, Rengo will take charge of recycling and processing the used release paper and employ WR Supply's patented methodology to produce the EB Series base paper.
This process incorporates WR Supply’s EB Series base paper, which the company claims to hold the potential to significantly mitigate CO2 emissions, as well as promote recycling.
The project envisions the comprehensive recycling of used release paper, which is a component of artificial leather manufacturing. The release paper itself is comprised of a two-layer structure: a base paper and a resin coating. The resin coating functions as a transfer mould, imparting intricate patterns and textures onto the artificial leather surface, akin to natural leather markings and geometric designs.
With this approach, Rengo will integrate the recycled release paper into diverse paperboard applications. WR Supply, on the other hand, will distribute the EB Series base paper to release paper manufacturers. In a seamless loop, Teijin Cordley will procure release paper created using the EB Series base paper, using it in its artificial leather production process.
Teijin Cordley boasts consistently championing ecologically conscious products and manufacturing practices and adds that its commitment extends to employing recycled raw materials for artificial leather-based fabrics and adopting water-based polyurethane devoid of organic solvents.
Partnering with them, WR Supply, a venture dedicated to ecologically recycled products and environmental consulting, adds its expertise to the collaboration.
