Sainsbury’s has also signed an MoU with global trade union IndustriALL, ACT said.

As active participants of the ACT agreement, signatory brands and IndustriALL Global Union are united in their commitment to uphold the human right to living wages through genuine supply chain industrial relations and collective bargaining.

This includes strengthening freedom of association and supporting dispute resolution mechanisms on a country level. On a global scale and within the supply chain this commitment translates into ensuring responsible purchasing practices and actively engaging in the industry’s largest surveys as well as the sole accountability mechanism on purchasing practices.

“Sainsbury’s is showcasing leadership and alignment with industry frontrunners,” said Mira Neumaier, executive director of ACT.

“We are thrilled to welcome Sainsbury’s who is joining forces with international brands and retailers and IndustriALL Global Union to work towards living wages and taking action to transform the global garments, textiles and footwear industry.”

Sainsbury’s reported a fall in Q3 Tu clothing sales earlier this year due to a slower Christmas period linked to unseasonably warm weather.
