ReHubs kickstarts operations with first partners Inditex, Mango, Euratex

ReHubs, an initiative launched by the European Apparel and Textile Industry (Euratex), has officially welcomed its first industry partners, including Spanish fashion companies Inditex and Mango amongst others, to advance the textile recycling capacity across Europe.

The inaugural General Assembly witnessed the formal inclusion of 18 European companies and organisations into ReHubs on 1 December 2023.

These partners, who represent different segments of the circular textile value chain, share a common commitment to investing in textile recycling capacity within Europe.

According to ReHubs, all partners will collaborate to support Chris Deloof, executive director of ReHubs, in initiating activities in the upcoming months.

The partners will also work on defining the next steps and activities for the forthcoming work plan and the development of the European Textile Recycling Roadmap.

Deloof said: "I am delighted to see such a strong group of organisations teaming up with ReHubs. They are a great example of how to establish a new circular textile value chain in Europe. We need to focus now on rolling out ReHubs investment projects and further expanding our partners and investors network."

ReHubs expects additional partners to join in the future as the initiative is garnering widespread interest and companies are encouraged to become a part of the initiative at any time.

The ReHubs initiative was first unveiled at the end of 2020 by Euratex, in a bid to upcycle textile waste and circular materials across the continent.

Euratex explained at that time, how the initiative was aimed at establishing five recycling hubs, known as ReHubs, serving the whole of Europe for upcycling waste and circular materials by collecting, sorting, processing, and recycling industrial, pre and post-consumer textile wastes.

In October ReHubs Europe, a new international non-profit organisation dedicated to advancing textile recycling was launched in collaboration with Euratex to respond to the impending EU legislation that mandates the compulsory collection and sorting of textile waste by 2025.

ReHubs Europe’s headquarters is in Brussels and it will work closely with Euratex. Membership is open to any companies interested in investing in textile waste recycling in Europe.

Global menswear market dynamics

Global menswear market is expected to grow at a CAGR of more than 4% by 2027, as consumer confidence takes time to rebuild following inflationary pressures. The popularity of the resale market will also somewhat hinder menswear retail growth, as more shoppers will divert spend away from traditional retailers and brands to secondhand channels, in a bid to save money and protect the planet.
