PicoNext prepares apparel sector for DPP reporting

Digital Product Passport (DPP) end-to-end platform PicoNext has released free planning and publishing tools to help fashion companies prepare sustainability information ahead of upcoming EU DPP legislation.

PicoNext explained its new tools will help companies organise, prepare, and publish their product sustainability information as a Digital Product Passport (DPP).

The company claimed its DPP Planner is the "first" sustainability tool to democratise Digital Product Passport creation using pre-built, industry-specific templates, alongside an extensive library of sustainability reporting attributes.

PicoNext pointed out that DPPs can typically be accessed via a QR code or web link and allow customers to easily view environmental information by category, and enable companies to create a brand experience around the data while improving transparency and trust.

Companies can use these pre-built templates in the DPP Planner to accelerate their Digital Product Passport preparation.

Organising DPP info using pre-built templates

PicoNext described its new DPP Planner capability as a one-stop location for companies to gather sustainability information from different locations in their company, as well as across their supply chains.

It is said to offer pre-built templates for apparel, textiles, batteries, plastics, and other industries anticipated to be covered by DPP regulations.

In addition, companies can customise company-specific templates for later use using an extensive library of sustainability attributes – like raw materials sourcing, recyclability, durability, carbon impact, resource usage and social responsibility.

Engaging customers with visual DPP data

According to PicoNext, the DPP Planner capability enables users to include visual sustainability data to support their environmental claims and avoid greenwashing.

The company added that brands can engage users with videos, images, infographics, audit reports, certification links, and other data that show consumers the step-by-step actions a brand is taking around sustainability, and also build greater trust with customers.

Plus, the DPP Planner can be used by companies to further organise their sustainability information using custom categories, as well as report on the dates that events occurred.

PicoNext Free Tier: Publishing DPP at no cost

PicoNext highlighted that companies can also publish Digital Product Passports at no-charge using its new PicoNext Free Tier and get feedback about DPPs as regulations are evolving.

This new tool is said to enable companies to:

  • Access a version of DPP Planner to organise sustainability information using industry-specific templates
  • Publish a select number of DPPs in the cloud
  • Update and edit associated DPP sustainability events
  • Provide customer access to DPP information using a turnkey, pre-formatted Web viewer.

The company noted its PicoNext Free Tier also allows brands to provide QR codes and Web links to their customers to easily access DPP on the web using a smartphone with no additional apps or downloads required.

PicoNext's founder Dave Dickson believes that as companies seek to comply with evolving regulatory requirements and differentiate themselves using sustainability, they can gain valuable experience by publishing Digital Product Passports today.

He stated: "With the new PicoNext Free Tier and DPP Planner capability, brands can accelerate their sustainability reporting and gain important customer feedback on their DPPs prior to the full force of EU regulation."
