This collaboration brings together the sustainability expertise of Lenzing's Ecovero fibres with Refibra technology, the eco-friendly Rioca EF yarn by Asahi Kasei, and the craftsmanship of denim manufacturer, Kaihara Denim.
The Saisei collection is said to offer designers a variety of sustainable denim options and features three distinct fabrications: super stretch (Monster Stretch by Kaihara Denim), comfort stretch, and low stretch (selvedge denim).
These fabrics are not only made from recycled materials but are described to also deliver “exceptional” softness, flexibility, and durability, making them ideal for a range of applications from casual wear to workwear.
At the heart of the collection is Lenzing’s Ecovero fibres, which integrate up to 20% post-consumer textile waste into the fabric. This approach to recycling cellulose-rich materials and polyester-cotton blends ensures the resulting denim has a natural softness and reduces environmental impact.
The Roica EF yarn, which is made from pre-consumer recycled content, adds stretchability to the fabric while boasting 30% lower CO2 emissions compared to regular yarns.
Dennis Hui, global business development manager for denim at Lenzing commented: “This partnership not only underscores the shared commitment between Lenzing and our partners to create excellent products while doing better for the environment, but also serves as a catalyst for driving the transformation towards low impact practices across the denim value chain and beyond.”
Hiroaki Shinohe, chief marketing officer of Roica Europe at Asahi Kasei explained how the company’s goal is to achieve zero emissions and recycle all of its industrial waste.
“By partnering with Lenzing and Kaihara Denim on a recycling concept that gives new life to pre-used materials, we are able to leverage our collective expertise in sustainable stretch fabrics,” continued Shinohe.
Hirofumi Inagaki, executive officer and general manager of sales department at Kaihara Denim, a standing partner of Lenzing believed the partnership embodied its drive towards positive change across the global denim landscape.
The Saisei collection made its global debut at the Kingpins trade show in Amsterdam.
