Aware’s technology aims to provide companies, such as Gemline, with a credible means to validate their environmental claims through a digital product passport grounded in primary data.

The initial implementation of Aware's technology will be showcased through a collection developed in collaboration with MiiR, a B-Corp and Climate Neutral certified company.

Launching in August, Gemline's MiiR Olympus 2.0 collection in collaboration with Aware features six bag modern styles, each embodying transparency, quality, and sustainable attributes.

Frank Carpenito, president and CEO of Gemline, expresses the significance of this partnership, stating: "The utilisation of Aware's state-of-the-art technology represents an advancement in enhancing textile transparency within our supply chain and sets a new precedent in the US."

Carpenito explained the company's role in introducing this technology to the market and how it reinforces Gemline's commitment to positive environmental and social impact.

Aware's technology stands as an innovation that it calls a phygital (physical + digital) traceability solution grounded in primary data from manufacturers.

By embedding a scannable tracer into the fibre at the source and creating a digital counterpart on a public blockchain, the technology aims to thwart fraudulent activities.

The company states that MiiR holds Carbon Neutral certification and with the incorporation of post-consumer recycled materials it is “prioritising business practices and strategies that preserve the long-term viability of people and the planet.”

To Koen Warmerdam, co-founder and brand director added: "Consumers want to understand where their products come from, but it does not stop there. They want total transparency. And that's what we can give them with our technology. The whole supply chain becomes transparent, and the information is super reliable because we get the info from the primary source."

Gemline strongly believes its substantial efforts to generate solar energy and its status as a zero-landfill facility reflect its dedication to minimising environmental impact. Acknowledged for its achievements, Gemline was awarded a bronze medal by EcoVadis in 2022.

In 2021, Calik Denim partnered with Aware on a fully traceable capsule collection that it said allowed it to "guard the certification of its products."

APAC duty-free market expected to grow fastest, fueled by rising income levels and international travelers

Per latest GlobalData estimates, the global duty-free market retailing market was valued at $49 billion in 2022, its highest level ever as it bounced back from the pandemic impact, and is expected to grow at a CAGR of more than 28% during the period 2020-2026, driven by government initiatives, rising passenger numbers, major global events (for instance global sporting tournaments) and the renewed popularity of cruise trips. Infrastructure investments will also play an important role, particularly airport expansion and space refurbishment, and investments in arrivals duty-free formats.
