Coats Group's entire sewing thread products are now available with Cradle to Cradle Material Health Certificates at gold, platinum, and bronze levels.
Nienke Steen, global lead of apparel, textiles, and footwear cradle to cradle product innovation commended Coats for its role in sustainable and safe textile component solutions.
Steen highlighted the diverse kits of cellulose-based and recycled PET-based threads that have gone through the rigorous Cradle-to-Cradle Certified Material Health assessment.
The newly obtained certificates adhere to version 4.0 requirements, focusing on material and chemical safety, surpassing the strictness of the previous version.
Steen added: The threads can be used for the optimal circular design solution. That is key when the market requires safe solutions to develop circular products.”
Adrian Elliott, CEO of the apparel division at Coats Group added: "This (certification) highlights our commitment to safe, circular, and sustainable products.
“We are committed to leading towards a sustainable future with dedication and innovation by producing products that are safe both chemically and environmentally.”
Coats Group has undertaken various projects during the research period which are linked to sustainability.
One example, which was recognised in Just Style’s investments category, was its launch of a pilot sustainability hub in Madurai, India that planned to serve as a centre of excellence for spinning and twisting.
The hub is said to be part of a wider five-year $10m investment plan to develop green technologies and materials and help the company reach its emissions reduction targets.
In the environmental category, the company was recognised for the introduction of a new biodegradable polymer thread product called Eco-B.
Coats Group also expanded its business through a deal to acquire Texon International Group, a company that makes structural components for footwear and apparel. The aim of the acquisition was to strengthen the company’s position in the sports footwear market.
