The unprecedented deal was signed between Asos and IndustriALL Global Union, with support from the ACT (Action, Collaboration, Transformation) initiative. It has been described as paving the way for the garment sector's “first-ever brand-supported collective bargaining agreement” in the garment and footwear industry.

The agreement is part of ASOS' Fashion with Integrity programme, demonstrating the company's commitment to protecting human rights and ethical labour practices throughout its supply chain.

“Having been involved in the ACT process for a number of years, we’re incredibly proud to be one of the first brands to sign a legally binding Agreement with IndustriALL Global Union," said Adil Rehman, Asos' head of Human Rights. "It shows what can be achieved when brands, unions and employers collaborate to drive sustainable, long-term change."

The legally binding pacts aim to address brand obligations,  meet human rights due diligence requirements on in-country outcomes and facilitate meaningful engagement with stakeholders across the value chain.

Rehman continued: “This is a vital first step towards an agreement that will have a broader positive impact on human rights within the global supply chain, and shows what can be achieved when brands, unions, and employers work together to achieve sustainable, long-term change.”

Asos partnered with leading Indian retailer Reliance Retail in May to expand its geographical footprint, with one expert highlighting lucrative growth opportunities in the Indian market, which is projected to grow at a CAGR of 5.2% over the next four years.
