The DyTan process is the outcome of a partnership between Archroma and Trumpler who have combined their expertise to offer an alternative to existing metal-free and chrome-tanned leather production that claims to deliver high-performance leather for a variety of applications.

At the heart of the DyTan process is Archroma's patented Avicuero System, developed through collaboration with leather technology consultant Dr. Leather.

This system relies on novel molecules that enable sustainable leather tanning and dyeing while simplifying the process and reducing the required energy and water resources.

As a result, DyTan is claiming to have the potential to save energy by up to 25% and reduce process time in CO2 emissions by up to 23%, compared to traditional chrome tanning through the Archroma One Way Impact Calculator.

The company said the process also shows significant water savings compared to other metal-free tanning systems.

"Our collaboration with Archroma has made it possible to rethink traditional methods of leather production and to develop a pioneering alternative," explained Hein Vugs, managing director of the Trumpler Group. "Our vision is to lead the leather industry to a more consciously sustainable future without compromising on quality or efficiency.”

DyTan is said to be free from metal salts and reactive aldehydes making it a more sustainable choice for eco-conscious leather manufacturers catering to industries such as garments, footwear, automotive, and furniture upholstery.

Mark Garrett, CEO of Archroma Group, added: "With the aim of bringing a new state-of-the-art solution to the leather industry, Archroma and Trumpler share a commitment to innovation, sustainability, and customer satisfaction.

“Leveraging the Avicuero System, the new DyTan process represents a significant milestone in the history of leather production, bringing remarkable operational and end-use benefits to help uplift the industry as a whole."

As an exclusive global partner of Archroma, the Trumpler Group is tasked with distributing the Avicuero System on a worldwide scale.

Trumpler will provide technical support and assistance to leather manufacturers and brands in adopting sustainable tanning practices, drawing on its product portfolio and process knowledge of tanning, re-tanning, and fat liquoring processes.

This week (23rd October), Shima Seiki, a provider of computerised flat knitting machines and digital design systems, merged Archroma’s colour library on its SDS-One Apex subscription software.
