AMSilk, known for producing high-performance materials derived from spider silk-based proteins, now joins a group of “promising growth-stage companies” recognised for their contributions to the bioeconomy and industrial biotechnology sectors. The company’s materials are used in a variety of industries, including textiles, homecare, and automotive.

The Global Innovators Community, an invite-only initiative, was established in 2019 to bring together companies making strides to innovate and contribute meaningfully to solving the key issues faced by people and the planet.

AMSilk recently demonstrated the environmental promise of its technology through an independent ‘Cradle to Gate’ Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), conducted by Quantis, which verified the environmental superiority of its Ultrafine Fiber compared to mulberry silk.

With its strong environmental credentials and a record of collaborations with industry-leading global companies, AMSilk is primed to connect with fellow leaders in the Global Innovators Community to solve key issues for the future of the planet.

Ulrich Scherbel, CEO of AMSilk, highlighted the importance of this recognition, stating, "Being invited to join the World Economic Forum’s Global Innovators Community stands as a testament to our status as a global leader in advanced biomaterials." He added that AMSilk is committed to furthering innovation and contributing to the World Economic Forum’s initiatives.

Verena Kuhn, head of the Global Innovators Community, welcomed AMSilk and said: We are looking forward to the team’s engagement in our bioeconomy initiative, where AMSilk will work with other global leaders to accelerate the global transition of the tech-driven bioeconomy into the commercial mainstream.”

As part of the Global Innovators Community, AMSilk will participate in two upcoming events: a private session with Jörg Kukies, state secretary of Germany, at the Special Meeting of Innovator Communities, and the Annual Meeting of Innovator Communities in New York, where top industry leaders will discuss the latest developments and challenges in technology and innovation.

In June, the independent “Cradle-to-Gate” Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) evaluated five key environmental indicators and found that fibres made by biomaterials company AMSilk have a “significantly” reduced environmental footprint compared to traditional silk fibres.
