California-based 3D design and automation software firm vPersonalize has developed an online pattern maker that it claims offers an intuitive user interface and “powerful” collaboration capabilities.

Unlike most proprietary pattern tools that lock users into their data formats, the company says its CAD patterns support standard formats like DXF, AI and SVG for both import and export.

“In keeping with our pursuit of providing affordable CAD tools to designers everywhere, vPersonalize makes its singular contribution to the apparel industry by introducing its one-of-a-kind online pattern maker,” the company says. “Access the same technical capabilities as proprietary pattern tools that cost tens of thousands of dollars. Move ahead swiftly with a very intuitive user interface, coupled with powerful collaboration capabilities.”

The company says the new tool allows users to create precise patterns and tech-packs quickly, and import and export pattern files using open standards that can be saved, shared and accessed anywhere. Add-on services include auto-grading, nesting, a pattern library, or a service to get apparel samples made.

“The slow process of making changes on the garment, then on the pattern and communicating the changes back and forth to the factories only to find out that they misunderstood the directions for the sample, seemed like the most inefficient process ever,” says Jessica, a fashion and technology consultant.

Last year, the company developed 3D design-to-manufacturing automation software to enable local one-off, small batch and custom manufacturing of apparel, accessories and footwear.
