Lifestyle retailer Tommy Bahama Group has appointed Martin Coles as managing director of its international operations, with immediate effect.

“With the strength of the Tommy Bahama brand in the United States, it has never been a better time to extend our brand internationally,” said Terry Pillow, CEO. “Martin and I had an opportunity to work together at Reebok and I have a tremendous amount of respect for him and his knowledge and understanding of the international market place.”

In this newly created position, Coles will be responsible for managing all existing international business as well as expansion into new markets. Tommy Bahama currently has licensed retail stores and distribution in Canada, Australia and Dubai and is well positioned for further international growth.

“I have every confidence that the values and lifestyle embodied by Tommy Bahama together with our unique sense of style and attention to detail in all aspects of our product offerings will resonate as strongly in international markets as they do within the US,” said Coles.

Most recently, Coles served as president of Starbucks International which, during his tenure, grew its international presence to nearly 5,400 stores in 51 countries. He also served as president and CEO of Reebok, and held various executive level positions within Nike’s global and European operations.

Tommy Bahama, a wholly owned subsidiary of Oxford Industries, makes men’s and women’s sportswear, denim, swimwear and accessories which are sold at retailers around the world, and also operates more than 80 stores.
