Building on the success of a similar collection for children earlier this year, PVH‘s Tommy Hilfiger business has developed a new clothing line for adults who may experience difficulty dressing themselves.
The so-called ‘adaptive apparel’ line is designed to allow ease of dressing for individuals and caregivers, removing the difficulties of negotiating steps such as buttons or zippers, and helping those who may lack a full range of motion.
Consisting of 37 men’s and 34 women’s styles based upon pieces from the spring Tommy Hilfiger sportswear collection, the new line has been developed with the end consumer in mind and features adjusted seams and openings.
Modifications include magnetic shoulders, front and back closures to help pull clothes over the head, Velcro brand closures, and magnetic flies for ease when wearing pants, jeans and chinos.
Other features include adjusted leg openings and hems to accommodate leg braces and orthotics, magnetic zippers to enable individuals to zip and unzip with one hand, and pull-on pant loops inside of waistbands that fit around the wrist to pull on pants.
“Inclusivity and the democratisation of fashion have always been at the core of my brand’s DNA,” says Tommy Hilfiger. “These collections continue to build on that vision, empowering differently abled adults to express themselves through fashion.”
