Verification, testing and certification company SGS has been approved by The Microfibre Consortium (TMC) as its first third-party laboratory member, and will soon be extending its fibre fragmentation testing services beyond consortium member organisations.
Founded in 2018, TMC is driving the development of solutions to minimise textile fibre fragmentation and its release into the environment during manufacturing and use.
The collaboration with SGS will provide TMC’s brand, retail and supplier members with bespoke support and standardised testing services across its global network of testing laboratories, including Hong Kong, Shanghai and Taipei City.
Amid rising concerns over the prevalence of synthetic microfibre pollution, TMC established a new database in November to enable brands, retailers and suppliers to better understand the microfibre material loss from different fibres, yarns and fabric constructions.
