The Lycra Company, a global leader in sustainable fibre and technology solutions in the apparel and textile sector, extended its Lycra Adaptiv fibre portfolio and introduced two elastane fibres during the Intertextile Shanghai event last month: Lycra Adaptiv Black fibre and Lycra Adaptiv Xtra Life fibre.
These new fibres combine the inherent advantages of the original Lycra Adaptiv fibre with the additional benefits of two technologies, which boast an elevated and comprehensive wearing experience.
Lycra Adaptiv Black fibre is said to be tailored for long-lasting activewear and athleisure apparel. The company said it addresses the issue of fibre damage caused by UV rays, sunscreen, and anti-chafing creams, which can adversely affect a garment’s fit, functionality, and longevity.
This innovative technology allows garment manufacturers and brands to create size-inclusive clothing items that offer a second-skin fit with the fibre.
Lycra Adaptiv Xtra Life fibre claims to last up to ten times longer than garments made with unprotected elastane. Additionally, Lycra states it offers shaping properties, comfort, and a broader fit window to cater to diverse body shapes. The company notes it also simplifies the process of donning and doffing.
Steve Stewart, chief brand and innovation officer at The Lycra Company, commented: “Our insights show that consumers are increasingly choosing quality over quantity when it comes to their wardrobe. Consumers are investing in fewer high-quality garments they can wear longer.

In an effort to further promote sustainability, The Lycra Company is set to launch the “Waste for Good” campaign in Europe in the fourth quarter of 2023. This campaign aims to champion circularity in the apparel and textile industry through the use of Coolmax EcoMade and Thermolite EcoMade technologies, which are crafted from recycled materials.
