By GlobalDataDanish shoemaker Ecco is to expand Thailand's role as its regional production base as part of a global drive to build on core markets in Europe and the United States the Bangkok Post reported today. As part of its thrust into Asia, Ecco will open a concept shop in Bangkok later this year, complementing its existing shops in China, Singapore and a sales office in Hong Kong. Costing 20m baht ($2.5m), the shop would be expanded into a 120 sq m outlet if sales went well, said Bob Jones, managing director of Ecco (Thailand) Co, a joint venture owned 95 per cent by Ecco of Denmark and five per cent by Bangkok Rubber Plc, a subsidiary of the Saha Group.
