The new venture, which was launched at the end of 2024, draws on SWE-S’s proficiency in eco-friendly hosiery manufacturing to introduce a line of legwear designed for enhanced durability and ethical production practices.
Treadfine aims to offer companies a superior option compared to the prevalent single-use nylon hosiery items.
The initiative is set to boost the adoption of sustainable manufacturing methods within the industry by catering to businesses on a larger scale.
Annually, the disposal of eight billion pairs of hosiery after a single use is a significant environmental concern.
SWE-S CEO Linn Frisinger has likened hosiery to “the plastic straw of the fashion industry” and emphasises the need for a shift towards more sustainable practices.
To catalyse change across the industry, Treadfine extends an invitation to other brands to use SWE-S’s Italian production facilities.
The company states that these facilities are distinguished by their use of solar and other renewable energy sources, as well as their commitment to responsible production standards.
The facilities also have in place practices such as water purification and reuse during the dyeing process, adherence to workplace rights, and minimisation of environmental impact.
Frisinger stated: “We established Treadfine to give businesses and in turn, customers, a better alternative to traditional hosiery products at scale. Treadfine is about helping other brands produce more sustainably so we can all minimise the environmental impact of traditional hosiery production.”
Treadfine Productions has also revealed the label partnership with Swedish retail chain MQ, marking a collaborative effort towards fostering a more sustainable fashion sector.
Furthermore, partners joining Treadfine will have access to the Swedish Stockings’ Recycling Club. This initiative focuses on closing the loop on nylon waste by collecting used hosiery from any brand and repurposing the fibres into new products with extended lifespans, such as furniture.
In a bold move towards sustainability, Swedish Stockings sets a goal to recycle more hosiery than it produces this year by inviting additional brands to participate in this programme.
