Leather chemicals and coatings company Stahl is working with HP Latex Inks to increase the durability and sustainability of printed synthetics used in products such as shoes and apparel.

Combining the Stahl EVO range of water-based polyurethane-coatings for synthetics with the water-based HP Latex Inks preserves the flexibility of the material, the companies say, as well as enhancing the durability of the printed items.

“The partnership with Stahl enables us to reach new markets and help our customers to quickly adapt to new market trends while reducing costly stocks,” explains François Tanière, worldwide marketing business developer at HP Inc’s large format printing division.

Sidnei Blos, global market manager synthetics at Stahl, adds the Stahl EVO coatings “do not contain any hazardous classified substances and offer the performance leading brands are used to. The primer is the perfect preparation for digital printing. The 100% water-based top coat is perfect to apply on printed synthetic substrates in order to create durable, smooth and wide colour gradients.”

The two companies are showing their partnership at the upcoming All China Leather Exhibition (ACLE) in Shanghai later this month.

Stahl already offers a range of bio- and water-based coating solutions, as well as tanning systems like Proviera – Probiotics for Leather, Stahl EasyWhite Tan and a full range of high-performance leather dyes.
