Sainsbury’s has appointed former Amazon executive Jessica Brown to head up the UK supermarket retailer’s e-commerce Tu clothing divisions.

Appointed with immediate effect, Brown joins from online retail giant Amazon where she was most recently principle product manager for Alexa. Prior to this, she spent three years as senior programme manager for Amazon Fashion Europe.

Nigel Blunt, director of e-commerce at Sainsbury’s, said in a statement: “We’re delighted to welcome Jess to the Sainsbury’s team. Tu clothing is popular with our customers and her expertise in digital will be a great asset to us as we continue to grow our online offer.”

Brown’s appointment follows the resignation of chief executive Mike Coupe last month. The news came a day after the supermarket retailer announced plans to cut hundreds of management roles as it continues to integrate Argos into the business.

In its most recent financial update, the supermarket reported a surge in clothing sales in the third quarter, buoyed by a popular party range and colder weather.
