Rick Helfenbein, who recently stepped down as president and CEO of the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA), is taking on a new role as a special advisor at  international trade and government affairs consultancy Sorini, Samet & Associates.

In this new capacity, Rick will work with clients on pragmatic solutions to trade policy and global sourcing challenges, the Washington, DC based lobbying firm says.

“Rick’s track record in achieving success in the apparel and footwear markets is unparalleled,” says founding principal Ron Sorini. “Our clients will benefit from his business acumen combined with his undeniable savvy regarding the political process on trade. He is a significant addition to our team.”

Founding principal Andrew Samet adds: “Nobody understands the accelerating changes confronting the apparel and footwear supply chain better than Rick. Whether the challenge is adapting to changed trade rules, the demands for responsible sourcing, sustainability and supply chain accountability, or protecting intellectual property, Rick Helfenbein will offer valued insights and advice built on enormous experience.”

AAFA is the national trade association representing more than 1,000 brands in the apparel, footwear, and accessories industry. During his tenure, Helfenbein is credited with transforming and re-energising its operations, a large increase in membership and revenue, and “notable legislative victories” on Capitol Hill.
