As many as 25 of Macedonia’s leading apparel manufacturers are expected to be available for factory visits next month as the industry hosts another EU Apparel Buyers’ week.
The firms will represent a cross section of the capabilities the country has to offer, while the event itself represents a quick and easy way to meet new suppliers, build relationships with existing partners, and learn more about making Macedonia part of a sourcing strategy.
One-on-one pre-matched meetings and factory visits will be arranged by the event’s co-organiser, the USAID-funded Macedonia Competitiveness Project, based on the procurement needs of buyers and manufacturer production profiles.
It is expected that 8-15 factory visits will be arranged between participating buyers and manufacturers, encouraging opportunities for sourcing, outsourcing and other business linkages. Following the buyers’ week, the organisers – who also include the Macedonia Textile Trade Association ( TTA), German Technical Cooperation (GTZ), Swiss Import Promotion Program (SIPPO) and the Dutch Center for Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (CBI) – will be available to support sampling and other business services.
The country has supplied major brands and retailers in Europe for many years, with an industry that employs more than 40,000 people and generates annual exports exceeding $500m. Key export products include men’s shirts, women’s blouses and semi-heavy and heavy garments (tops and bottoms) for men and women.
Macedonian manufacturers offer the benefits of production costs of EUR0.08 per minute, one of the lowest rates in Europe, along with the flexibility to produce small orders at the same prices as larger orders.
