Sports retail giant JD Sports has acquired Manchester-based cult clothing brand Oi Polloi.
In its latest acquisition, according to filings at Companies House, JD Sports purchased the online assets and store of Oi Polloi earlier this year. The CEO of the sports retailer, Peter Cowgill, has been appointed company director.
No financial details of the deal were disclosed.
Independent boutique Oi Polloi, which sells menswear from brands including Barbour, Nike, Adidas, Ralph Lauren and Lacoste, was founded by Steve Sanderson and Nigel Lawson over 20 years ago who have reportedly now stepped away from the business.
JD Sports, which sells brands such as Nike and Adidas, operates around 400 JD and Size? branded stores across the UK and Ireland. It also sells in nearly 2,400 sports shops globally. It ended its last financial year to the end of January 2021 with total revenues of GBP6.17bn, up 0.98%, and pre-tax profits of GBP324m, down 7%.
In February, JD acquired US athletic footwear and apparel streetwear retailer DTLR Villa for US$495m in a move that extends its presence in the north and east of the United States.
