The new range comes less than three years after Gozen’s rapid development.
Lunaform is a nanocellulose biomaterial that was initially showcased in Balenciaga’s Maxi Bathrobe Coat.
Nature and technology drive a new design vision
Lunaform biomaterial is produced through a symbiotic process involving microorganisms that generate a fibrous biological network.
This process is refined through controlled fermentation, utilising BioCraft technology and drawing upon deep-rooted expertise.
Lunaform is entirely bio-based in its initial wet state, as verified by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) certification.
It can be cultivated on-site within a week with minimal resource demands. Its flowing drape, durability, and adaptability make it a suitable replacement for conventional materials, providing endless creative possibilities.
Lunaform’s cellulosic fibre structure imparts a textile-like feel that is rare among nonwoven materials. It offers designers the opportunity to create unique forms that blend natural elements with a vision of the future.
Gozen fashion designer and founder and CEO Ece Gozen said: “This is a huge moment for me together with the Gozen team. We have been working tirelessly to push the possibilities of material innovation and design, in our quest to establish a new material reality.
“During our recent appearance at Première Vision in Paris, we were thrilled to hear that Lunaform is viewed as unique among biomaterials in having a memory of its own. Leaders from the worlds of leather, denim and textiles were excited by its different levels of touch and its ability to conform to your movement. These qualities truly open up new possibilities; for example, Lunaform can be shaped directly around a mannequin, enabling designers to experiment live without cutting, stitching or backing material.
The debut Lunaform collection comprises three innovative series:
– ORIGINS showcases the intricate patterns formed by microbial activity during production.
– TRANSPARENT represents the first commercial translucent nanocellulose collection, offering an effect unattainable with raw animal leather.
– INDIGO features a bold artistic finish that redefines the intersection of textile, leather, and denim aesthetics.
This inaugural collection’s colour palette ranges from aquatic blues to cosmic-inspired translucent pinks and matte blacks that emphasise the organic prints inherent to its biological makeup.
“The many versions of Lunaform in our new range are already meeting performance criteria, and are available to order by brands in commercial products today. Through collaboration, we are expanding the possibilities of what nature and technology can create alone – and we are making that change, right now,” Ece Gozen stated.
The launch coincides with the inauguration of the company’s production plant in Türkiye and the release of a pioneering short film.
Gozen’s new facility
The new 40,000ft2 facility in Istanbul serves as a hub for material innovation, enabling brands to embrace sustainable design on a larger scale.
It currently can produce 150,000ft2 of material annually with prospects to increase output to 1 million square feet at full capacity, which can be equated to more than 40,000 garments.
