Fashion retailer Express Inc is adapting to a changing market with an artificial intelligence (AI) based merchandise planning application that ensures products are tailored to the needs of customers.
The retailer, which operates over 500 stores, has implemented the S5 Assortment cloud-based solution from S5 Stratos.
The application uses AI and machine learning to track changing consumer demand and predict selling patterns at a hyper-localised level, helping determine what products to carry, how much to buy by size, and when and where products should be offered.
Providing visibility into customer trends and shifting market dynamics enables retailers to make smarter decisions related to the development of future product strategies and personalisation of each offer.
With extensive coverage for omnichannel pre-season and in-season planning across both fashion and basic product types, the tool provides a holistic solution that eliminates spreadsheet-based tools, streamlines processes, improves decision quality and increases organisational agility, the companies say.
“To support our new go-to-market approach, we identified an opportunity to modernise our order management and assortment planning systems with next-generation technology that will improve data integrity and reduce manual work,” says Matt Moellering, president and chief operating officer at Express.
