DuPont Advanced Materials (DuPont) has developed a powered smart clothing technology for on-body heating in partnership with Taiwan’s Formosa Taffeta Company (FTC).
Due to be launched at the upcoming ISPO Munich trade show in Germany, the new durable heating solution is designed for use in outdoor clothing and can easily be integrated into garments, say the companies.
A combination of stretchable ink and film, when powered, Intexar Heat technology creates a “comfortable warmth” for the wearer.
“Our team has worked hard to develop a heater that feels like fabric, doesn’t rely on cables, thick wires or big batteries, and can stand up to very cold environments,” says Michael Burrows, global business manager, DuPont Advanced Materials.
FTC says it is the first textile manufacturer to take advantage of the technology as part of its Permawarm line, which delivers clothing brands a complete garment heater system including the Intexar heater, connectors and control software.
“With Permawarm, clothing brands can focus on garment design and brand engagement. We are taking the guesswork out of bringing their customers safe and comfortable heated garments,” says James Lee, president of FTC.
