The ITMF, IAF conference, titled “Innovation, Cooperation, and Regulation – Driving Forces of the Textile and Apparel Industry,” will explore the most pressing issues and trends in the global textile industry through expert discussions and multiple panel sessions.

Organised in collaboration with the Uztextileprom Association, the event will bring together over 500 industry professionals, including representatives from leading international textile companies, brands, financial institutions, and retailers.

Conference schedule – Day 1

The first day will focus on fibres, specifically the production and processing of raw cotton. Experts from Indorama Corp. (Singapore), Global Textile (Uzbekistan), and Cotton Analytics (USA) will discuss the journey of cotton from field to fashion, Uzbekistan’s shift from tradition to innovation, and the significant changes in the global cotton industry over the past 50 years.

The second part of the session will address the production of man-made fibres and the challenges posed by the scarcity of natural materials in the global textile industry.

Conference schedule – Day 2

The second and main day of the ITMF, IAF conference will cover a broad range of current issues and global trends. Euratex (Belgium) will present the EU Strategy for Sustainable Textiles and explore prospects for international cooperation, while Steve Lamar president and CEO of the American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA) will provide insights into the regulatory landscape in the US.

Key topics will include digitalisation, the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the textile production chain, and solutions to the skills shortage within the textile industry. Participants will also delve into digital labelling with AAFA and the digitalisation of distribution with Christian Lott from DMIx (Germany). Additionally, the session will cover the role of AI in addressing the industry’s skills gap.

The conference will conclude with the ITMF Awards and ITMF Start-up Award ceremony, recognising outstanding achievements and start-ups in the global textile industry.

A final session on collaboration will feature representatives from Inditex (Spain), Epic Group (Hong Kong, China), and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), discussing the future of sustainability and strategies for waste reduction.

After the formal agenda, delegates will have the opportunity to tour local textile factories and visit the ancient city of Bukhara, a key site along the Great Silk Road.

Following the conference, the Global Textile Dialog forum will be held in Tashkent on 13 September 2024, continuing the international dialogue among textile industry leaders and bringing together local and international organisations once again.
