Department store group Debenhams has announced 25 of its stores in England and Wales will close for the final time next week.
Stores in Leeds City Centre, Derby, and Blackpool are among those that will cease trading on 8 May, while Debenhams’ remaining 45 stores are expected to close on or before 15 May.
Debenhams says discounts include up to 80% off fashion and home and at least 50% off everything across the store, including beauty and fragrance, as it clears the last remaining stock.
The company permanently closed its 15 stores in Scotland in February after announcing they would not reopen following the easing of lockdown arrangements.
Debenhams entered administration for the second time in April last year, and began a wind-down of its operations in early December after JD Sports Fashion, Britain’s largest sportswear retailer, ended rescue talks and administrators failed to find an alternative buyer for the business.
In January, UK online fast fashion retailer Boohoo Group inked a deal to acquire the global rights to Debenhams brands and its websites for GBP55m (US$75.2m). The move is aimed at furthering the group’s ambition to create the UK’s largest marketplace and grow into new categories including beauty, sport, and homeware.
