In light of the new legislative term that follows the presidential election, the US Policy MET is set to significantly influence Cascale’s strategies in addressing pivotal issues and prospects within the textile, apparel, and broader consumer goods industries.
The MET boasts representation from major brands, retailers, manufacturers, and affiliated entities, underscoring Cascale’s dedication to a member-centric and leader-driven approach to advocacy.
Leading the MET are Elisabeth von Reitzenstein, who serves as senior director of policy and public affairs at Cascale, and Gabriele Ballero, holding the position of public affairs manager. Their roles centre on leveraging member contributions to inform Cascale’s Public Affairs Strategy in the US.
Although primarily focused on generating practical insights and counsel to amplify Cascale’s clout in US policymaking circles, the MET will abstain from direct lobbying activities.
The team’s scope will be concentrated on providing practical insights and suggestions to enhance Cascale’s presence in US policymaking without participating directly in lobbying activities.
Komar Brands sustainability director Dr Thiwanka De Fonseka said: “The United States has the world’s largest fashion market, with revenue exceeding $350bn.

By GlobalData“The US Policy MET, initiated by the fashion industry stakeholders, is critical to balancing the pressing need for sustainable development in the fashion industry with consistent growth. It ensures that products and services that enhance climate resilience, equitable partnerships, better livelihoods, and nature-positive impacts can move forward effectively without compromising environmental, social, and governance safeguards under strong US policies that will impact the entire world.”
This establishment of the advisory group reinforces Cascale’s pledge to tailored regional advocacy.
Historically, Cascale has engaged with EU policies, most notably through its alliance with the Policy Hub targeting key European issues.
The 2024 Policy Priorities document released in April 2024 highlighted plans for concerted actions with its global Public Affairs Strategic Council aimed at tackling regional challenges within both the US and Asia-Pacific sectors. This commitment is set to continue into 2025 with plans for an Asia-Pacific MET.
The US Policy MET’s primary goals involve collating member expertise to identify critical policy areas and determine whether advocacy should be directed at federal or state levels—or address both tiers.
Insights from these policy papers may also contribute to initiatives by the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA), thereby synchronising Cascale’s efforts with larger sector-wide movements.
Von Reitzenstein said: “This initiative demonstrates the strength of member collaboration in shaping Cascale’s advocacy efforts. The US Policy MET reflects our unwavering commitment to ensuring that our policy positions are firmly rooted in the insights, priorities, and shared expertise of our members.
“At this pivotal moment, their collective knowledge will enable us to advocate for policies that not only support industry growth but also drive meaningful innovation and sustainability. Together, we are building a unified and forward-thinking voice to address today’s challenges and seize tomorrow’s opportunities.”
Earlier this month, Cascale organised an event in Brussels to help the apparel and footwear industry explore and discuss current and upcoming EU legislation.
