The Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh has severed ties with all Supertex Group factories due to the failure of implementing workplace safety measures.

In a statement, the Accord said it has terminated business with Accord company signatories of Super Knitting & Dying Mills Ltd and all factories of the Supertex Group due to Super Knitting & Dying Mills Ltd’s failure to implement workplace safety measures.

It added the following factories under the same ownership of Supertex Group are affected by this decision and accordingly are now considered ineligible factories for Accord company production: Super knitting & Dying Mills Ltd; Greenland Apparels Ltd; Epshita Garments Ltd; Super Synthetics; Super Thread Ltd; and Visual Eco Style Wear Ltd.

Super knitting & Dying Mills Ltd was inspected by the Accord for structural, fire and electrical safety in April 2014, but failed to make adequate progress in CAP implementation. They will not be allowed to produce for Accord signatory companies for a minimum period of 18 months and until they meet the conditions for requalification.

In addition, the Accord has also cut ties with SB Knitex Ltd due to the supplier’s failure to submit a Corrective Action Plan.

SB Knitex Ltd was inspected by the Accord for structural safety in June 2016 and for fire and electrical safety in November 2016.

Now, due to it’s failure to co-operate, SB Knitex Ltd is no longer eligible for Accord company production for a minimum period of 18 months and until it meets the conditions for requalification.

As with Supertex Group, the Accord say it will work with its labour and company signatories in an effort to ensure that any affected workers are offered employment with safe suppliers.
