A recent Kingpins Hong Kong pop-up featured 24 participants, including denim mills, fibre companies, garment producers, chemical firms, and textile equipment manufacturers.

Highlights from the event:

  • A retrospective by Douglas Gunn from The Vintage Showroom on the evolution of denim in workwear through an exhibit titled ‘A Denim Workwear Love Story.’
  • A collaboration between HKDI and Advance Denim resulting in a fashion show showcasing student creations.
  • An exhibition by Shanghai Jingqiu featuring a selection of handcrafted items.
  • A panel led by expert David Tring titled ‘Innovative Materials (From Lab to Loom),’ discussing advancements in denim technology.

The pop-up show was one of several concurrent fashion-centric gatherings in the area.

Running alongside The Fashion Union, an eight-day celebration hosted by the Hong Kong Design Institute with support from the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency, Kingpins Hong Kong was part of the larger Hong Kong Fashion Fest sponsored by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Kingpins managing director and Global Sales Vivian Wang head said: “This season, The Fashion Union’s focus on workwear provided an opportunity for the Kingpins community to look at denim through that lens. Denim and jeans have their roots in workwear and the historical use of denim provides so much inspiration for today’s designers.

“The timing of our Pop-Up show, not only during The Fashion Union’s eight-day event, but also right before the Spring/Summer 2025 runway shows put on by Lumiere Runway, demonstrated to us that Hong Kong is a fashion destination, and we were pleased to connect with the denim community there.”
