The global apparel industry noticed a 40.3% drop in IT hiring activity in November 2022 over the previous month, led by Walmart’s 21.4% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The apparel industry’s overall hiring activity declined 9.17% when compared with October 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 2.81% share of the global apparel industry’s hiring activity in November 2022, down 2.46% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of November 2022 were 54.08% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 82.14% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 55.38% emerged as the top IT occupation in the apparel hiring activity in November 2022, a 69.11% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 15.88% in November 2022, down 50.94% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 14.13% share in November 2022, a decline of 22.79% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with an 8.01% share in November 2022 and a drop of 41.67% over October 2022.
Top five apparel companies by recruitment activity in November 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 65.93% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global apparel industry during November 2022 over October 2022.
Walmart posted 318 IT jobs in November 2022 and registered a drop of 6.47% over the previous month, followed by Amazon with 316 jobs and an 84.7% decline. Inter IKEA Holding with 161 IT jobs and Target with 68 jobs, recorded a 35.29% growth and a 33.33% rise, respectively, while NIKE recorded a 51.52% drop with 48 job postings during November 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in apparel industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global apparel IT hiring activity in November 2022 with a 60.03% share, which marked a 62.22% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 26.78%, registering a 52.22% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 10.83% share and a 65.23% drop over October 2022.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 1.55% and a month-on-month drop of 70.51%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.81%, registering a 70.73% decrease over the previous month.
