Sales and Related Occupations drive social responsibility-related hiring activity

Sales and Related Occupations, with a share of 18%, emerged as the top social responsibility-related job roles within the apparel industry in Q1 2023, with new job postings drop by 46% quarter-on-quarter. Production Occupations came in second with a share of 9% in Q1 2023, with new job postings rising by 21% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent social responsibility roles include Management Occupations with a 6% share in Q1 2023, Office and Administrative Support Occupations with a 4% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in apparel industry accounted for 61% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q1 2023 were Tesco, Walmart, Foot Locker, Amazon, and Dollar General. Together they accounted for a combined share of 61% of all social responsibility-related new jobs in the apparel industry.

Tesco posted 14,512 social responsibility-related new jobs in Q1 2023, Walmart 5,042 jobs, Foot Locker 1,763 jobs, Amazon 1,463 jobs, and Dollar General 1,311 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 43.56% share of total new job postings, Q1 2023

The largest share of social responsibility-related new job postings in the apparel industry in Q1 2023 was in the US with 43.56% followed by the UK (40.99%) and Japan (3.06%). The share represented by the US was 15 percentage points lower than the 59.01% share it accounted for in Q4 2022.
