This agreement aims to facilitate communication and cooperation between the two entities, streamline efforts, and expand knowledge regarding standard development processes.

Key objectives outlined in the MOU include joint educational initiatives across the textile production spectrum and leveraging both organisations’ resources to support the Indian textile sector.

AATCC president Christina Rapa said: “The textile industry in India represents a robust and dynamic sector. AATCC is committed to fostering global connections among textile, chemistry, and colour science professionals, and our Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with TAI marks an exciting milestone in this mission.

“We eagerly anticipate supporting the Indian market with high-quality testing standards, comprehensive training programs, and valuable networking opportunities in the years ahead.”

Additionally, the agreement outlines plans for co-hosted conferences designed to benefit TAI members as well as other stakeholders within India’s textile industry.

The partnership also introduces a reciprocal membership discount arrangement, offering a 30% reduction in fees for individuals joining either organisation.

AATCC has further committed to providing an introductory discount to TAI’s individual and corporate members as detailed in the MOU.

TAI president Tulsi Patel said: “The Textile Association (India) (TAI) is the largest professional association in the field of textiles—with over 26,000 members. We are pleased to enter into partnership with AATCC to strengthen India-USA ties in textiles.

“This collaboration will help with organising joint educational programmes, seminars, webinars, and international conferences. Individual and business members can benefit by expanding their knowledge and market opportunities.”

Besides, AATCC has appointed Seshadri Ramkumar as its first Ambassador to India during their November 2024 Board meeting.

Ramkumar, who is recognised with the AATCC Chapin Award and holds honorary positions within TAI, will represent AATCC’s interests in engagements with Indian firms and institutions. He serves as a professor specialising in advanced materials at Texas Tech University, located in Lubbock, Texas, US.

Seshadri Ramkumar said: “Textile trade between nations is an important economic activity, giving livelihoods to many people. There is a need for information exchange between nations and this agreement between two leading world bodies will promote such efforts.

“The collaboration involves joint educational programmes and organising global conferences to provide platforms for industry, research organisations, and academia to come together to grow the fibre to fashion and advanced textiles sectors.”

Additionally, AATCC has recently forged a MoU with Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI), aiming to adopt non-profit’s quality methods for textiles as national standards in Sri Lanka.

The pact was sealed by AATCC executive vice-president Diana Wyman, and SLSI director general Siddhika G Senaratne, both now affiliated with AATCC committees.
