Expanding horizons: Interloop’s state-of-the-art new apparel plant
Interloop unveiled a cutting-edge apparel manufacturing facility in Faisalabad, significantly enhancing its knitted apparel production capabilities to an annual output of 45 million pieces. Launched in November 2023, the facility is part of the expansive Interloop Apparel Park, the company’s most sophisticated complex featuring vertically integrated operations. The development has not only augmented Interloop’s production capacity but also its operational efficiency, boasting a daily production capacity of 50 tonnes across knitting and dyeing processes.
Spanning 232 acres, the Apparel Park serves as a hub for diverse manufacturing processes, centralised sustainability efforts, and ancillary services. The park’s infrastructure encompasses a hosiery factory, a vocational training centre for workforce development, a biodiversity park, a biomass boiler facility, and an advanced water recycling system. These elements are a testament to Interloop’s unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability and operational excellence on a large industrial scale.
Innovative threads: Interloop’s Loomshake™ yarn
Interloop is championing the use of alternative, sustainable materials by converting waste into valuable resources within its production cycle. A prime example of this innovative approach is the creation of a bio-based material that repurposes banana agricultural by-products into a usable textile fibre.
The groundbreaking material, branded as Loomshake™ yarn, has been integrated into Interloop’s product lines, including denim, hosiery, and other apparel items. Loomshake™ has earned certifications from Oeko-tex and ISCC plus, and its adoption has been well-received in the market, with successful applications in hosiery by Dinner Service NY and in denim by GUESS INC.
Green manufacturing: Interloop’s efforts in emission reduction
Interloop’s proactive approach to sustainability has earned it global recognition as a responsible manufacturer. The company’s achievements include several LEED-certified facilities, with its 5th Hosiery Plant being awarded LEED Gold certification. Interloop’s commitment to ethical practices is further evidenced by its adherence to Fair Trade principles and active participation in the United Nations Global Compact.
The company’s ESG framework is robust and data-driven, allowing for precise measurement of its environmental impact. Interloop is proud to be the first major Pakistani enterprise to have its Science Based Targets validated by the SBTi, reflecting its leadership in climate action.
Additionally, Interloop is enhancing its water recycling capabilities to handle 60% capacity and has made significant investments in solar energy, with the development of a Solar Park that has increased its solar capacity to 12.6MW.
Charting a greener future: Interloop’s comprehensive sustainability initiatives
Interloop is charting a sustainable path forward, with a strategic vision that touches all areas of its business. The company’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint is evident in its strategic sourcing of sustainable materials and its ambitious renewable energy targets, including the goal to increase its capacity to 25MW by 2025.
Central to Interloop’s long-term ESG strategy is the exploration of carbon markets and the expansion of its LEED footprint, which not only demonstrates its dedication to green infrastructure but also influences industry standards.
Operational efficiency is key to Interloop’s sustainability agenda. By transitioning to low-emission fuels and streamlining processes, the company is minimising its environmental impact. Interloop is also actively mapping its supply chain and collaborating with partners to develop a comprehensive emissions reduction roadmap that encompasses both direct and indirect emissions.
Through these strategic initiatives, Interloop is not only enhancing its sustainability profile, but is also driving industry-wide adoption of greener practices, proving that responsible business operations can coexist with commercial success.
“We’re leading with a data-driven strategy, as Pakistan’s first large-scale company with Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)-approved emission reduction targets, cutting over 29k tonnes of emissions in FY2023. Our aim is a 51% cut in scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2032.” – Navid Fazil, CEO, Interloop Limited
