The collaboration with Raddis Cotton represents a chapter in Trimco Group’s journey towards climate positivity. By acquiring knowledge about reviving landscapes and cultivating symbiotic crops in food and fibre ecosystems, the company hopes to inspire other brands to follow suit.
In light of the recent IPCC report emphasising the urgent need for action on climate change, Trimco Group is committed to exploring innovative ways to contribute positively to the environment. By supporting the production of regenerative cotton through this partnership, the company aims to give back more to nature than it takes, making significant strides towards a sustainable future.
Raddis Cotton, driven by the desire to improve the situation of tribal female farmers in India, has chosen to minimise the endorsement of renowned certification bodies. Instead, they document the process and support the farmers directly, reducing costs and ensuring accuracy in their initiatives.
Camilla Mjelde, sustainability director at Trimco Group, expressed excitement about the collaboration and said: “This collaboration will enable us to take the next steps and go beyond the expected in our efforts to protect the environment by turning towards regenerative cotton, supporting both sustainable sources for the processing of cotton for trims, as well as contributing to improving the lives of the farmers driving this change.”
Over the next five years, the Raddis System aims to convert 25,000 acres of cotton cultivation from degenerative mono-crop agriculture to rain-fed regenerative organic methods. The ambitious goals include increasing water retention capacity by 20-30%, enhancing farm biodiversity, removing toxic pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, sequestering carbon in the soil, reducing CO2 emissions, eliminating GMOs, and doubling the income of farmers.
Niccy Kol, impact catalyst at Raddis added: “We welcome Trimco Group as a partner within the Raddis System: our collaboration model not only empowers Trimco Group to enhance their impact within their own value chains but also provides farmers with a dedicated buyer for an extended period, ensuring stability and sustainability.”
