Better Cotton is calling for input on changes the organisation is making to its Chain of Custody models – some of the biggest changes in over a decade, it says.
Changes to the new Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard — previously called the ‘CoC Guidelines’ – will be made by the end of 2022 with the public consultation now live. This is expected to conclude on 25 November.

The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) last revised its Better Cotton Chain of Custody (CoC) Guidelines in July 2020.
The Better Cotton Standard System is a holistic approach to sustainable cotton production, which covers all three pillars of sustainability: social, environmental and economic, and addresses the many challenges of cotton production.
Its CoC is the key framework that connects demand with supply of Better Cotton and helps to incentivise cotton farmers to adopt more sustainable practices. The CoC Guidelines incorporate two different chain of custody models: product segregation between the farm and gin and mass-balance after the gin level.
Last year, Better Cotton made revisions to its Better Cotton Standard in a bid to strengthen the Better Cotton Principles and criteria, and to ensure best practice is met in line with the initiative’s 2030 Strategy.
