As Luis Pita, CEO of Ferre yarns explains: “We want to share the traceability and sustainability performance of our products to drive positive change and meet consumer demand for true transparency in fashion.

The process involves Ferre recycled yarns being embedded with Aware tracer particles and each production batch being tokenised on public blockchain. The Ferre yarns can be scanned and identified throughout the whole supply chain, including final products. The digital tokens follow the physical yarn on blockchain until the final product to validate mass balance and impact claims.

Ferre, which started 75 years ago is passionate about circular fashion and is always looking for new ways to make recycled yarns for sustainable manufacturers and brands.
Ferre spins high-quality recycled yarns for all types of apparel, accessories and home textiles using Recover, which is described as the lowest-impact recycled cotton fibre in today’s global market.
The company explains that recycled cotton is by far the most sustainable cotton in the world and as recycled cotton is made from post-industrial cutting clips and post-consumer garments, there is no additional use of water during fibre and yarn production.
It adds that thanks to a unique colour blending technology by Ferre’s own in-house lab, the company can create any colour of recycled cotton yarn without dyeing.
However, Ferre argues that over 80% of consumers don’t trust sustainability claims of final brands, so only true traceability can restore trust in the apparel business and avoid greenwashing.
Pita says: “All of our sustainability claims are supported by the most respected third-party certifications, as well as by studies we have conducted using LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) methodology. By adding the Aware traceability technology to our yarns, our customers can be assured that they can guarantee the said claims of their final products, made from our yarn.”
