Online fast-fashion retailer Boohoo has unveiled its first recycled fashion range with apparel made in the UK, using 95% recycled polyester and 5% elastane.

Launched today (18 June), the new For the Future line consists of 34 products, including co-ord sets, dresses, bodysuits, trousers and crop tops in sizes 6-24, with prices ranging from GBP8–GBP25 (US$10-$31).

Made using recycled polyester, the fabric is created from plastic that has been directed away from landfill and repurposed to produce new yarn.

The aim of the collection, Boohoo says, was to not to compromise on style, as “is often the case with recycled collections”, but instead offer consumers clothing they would not realise is made from recycled material.

What’s more, the retailer says For the Future is not a one-off clothing line, with plans to add new collections as the business works toward offering customers a wider range of sustainable fashion options.

“We are consistently listening to our customers and have been working on developing a recycled offering for some time,” says Boohoo Group founder, Carol Kane. “Boohoo acknowledges its responsibility to be a sustainable business and ‘For the Future’ fashion range is the next step in that journey.”

In addition to using recycled materials, Boohoo says the collection is made using environmentally friendly and non-toxic fabric dyes and ink, free of harmful chemicals, while all clothing in the line has been produced in the UK, reducing the amount of air miles required in the manufacturing process.

Meanwhile, the origin of the product will be detailed on the garment label for the consumer with every swing tag made from 100% recycled paper. Boohoo adds the manufacturing process is chlorine free and the material is acid free, while the string is made of 100% jute that is biodegradable and recyclable.

Accompanying today’s launch is a series of posts and on the Boohoo website, including styling videos on how to ‘get the most out of each outfit’ by suggesting three ways in which a particular garment can be worn.

The retailer has also published a guide to washing its apparel in a bid to extend the life of its items and care for the planet.
