The Indian Fashion Carnival – the rebranded third edition of Kolkota (Calcutta) Fashion Week – has been postponed indefinitely, just days before its launch.

The event was due to start on 10 September, but organisers blamed “certain unavoidable circumstances and operational difficulties” for the change of plan.

However, Sunil Sethi, president of Fashion Design Council of India told just-style he feared major designers had refused to participate or pulled out over concerns the event would not generate enough sales. “There is an over-enthusiasm [amongst] the organisers to take advantage of the fashion industry boom [but] serious fashion designers are only interested in business…unless an event brings a B-2-B story with it, it doesn’t work,” Sethi said.
